The best way to know the sex of your unborn baby is to wait until he or she is born. But the waiting period for some, especially for the first time mothers is agonizing to say the least, and they are the ones who like to know the sex of the child before it is born. This urge to know the unborn baby’s sex usually emanates from the pressure exerted by the society or family. A baby boy is usually preferred by most, as a woman who gives birth to a baby boy is highly regarded by her peers and the society in general. This is especially so in various African and Asian communities.
Nowadays it is easy to determine the sex of a child through an ultrasound that can be performed any time after the twentieth week of pregnancy. Prior to the discovery of this means the determination of the sex of unborn child was done (and is still done to a very large extent throughout the world) through speculation and perceived myths, that can not be scientifically proven.
One weird pregnancy fact that is believed widely is the determination if the sex of the baby by observing how low or how high the mother is carrying the child during the pregnancy. The general belief is that if she is carrying low then the child is a boy and if she is carrying low then it is a girl. This, of course, is not true as the torso height, the abdomen muscle size and the position of the baby has no affect on the sex of the fetus. Weird it may seem, but this is a pregnancy fact believed by most people to be true!
Another weird pregnancy fact is that the craving or tendency to eat sweet things implies that one is going to deliver a baby girl and vice versa. This is an unfounded belief that has no basis in science. Neither is the perception that if the mother-to-be’s face is round, then it is definitely a girl, and if it is not then it is a boy. The shape of face is of course determined by the facial bone structure of a person and therefore does not determine the possible sex of unborn baby.
There are beliefs that having sex in a particular position or environment increases the likelihood of giving birth to a boy over a girl. Most of these weird pregnancy facts, beliefs and myths about determining the sex of an unborn child differ from country to country, and have no scientific background.
A pregnant woman taking a bath cannot infect her unborn baby in any way because the possibility of water going up her birth canal is zero.
A pregnant woman can have sex almost up to a few weeks before giving birth or as her doctor advices contrary to the general belief that sex is a taboo during the third trimester. In fact having frequent sex throughout pregnancy can prove to be a good source of physical exercise and makes the body flexible enough for natural birth. A weird pregnancy fact that is true!
